our vintage home [dining room]

One of my favorite features of our new home is having a kitchen nook as well as a dining room. Down the road, we will love to have our dream danish modern dining room set, but for now, we are working with more of an eclectic design.  Turns out, our picnic table made by my father-in-law and family friend decades ago is now very 'in style'.  Having formal seating for eight is exciting, and I cannot wait to have dinner parties in this little space.  Our next big step for this room will be re-wiring the lights to create a proper space for a light fixture, we are currently dreaming of these urchin designs.

Turns out, this home used to be four bedrooms.  And you are currently viewing the fourth bedroom. Thankfully, they took out the wall in the 70's, because this is the space we need.  This house really would not have worked for us in any other way.

I know that open concept is all the rage right now, but it isn't always as glamorous as you see on t.v. Our last home was very 'open concept', but because of the size and configuration of rooms, it just felt like I could always touch my kitchen table while watching television.  And I was over that.  Now, our house has a few more defined spaces, but still open enough to feel connected while having friends and family over.  I also love that some of my favorite pyrex pieces look even better living in a room really dedicated to midcentury entertaining.

ten on ten [november 2013]

oh man, what a difference a ten on ten makes when it falls on a weekend

and a three day weekend for that fact, exponentially more awesome

today was lovely

and I enjoyed having my camera around all day

and I have a feeling I have way more than ten photos that I would want to share here

so I'll try to play by the rules

[sorry, decided to be rebel, just couldn't narrow it down]

ten photos over ten hours on the tenth of each month

this month the theme was "full harvest"

and considering it was almost eighty degrees outside

[not really complaining, but kind of]

we tried to be as "harvest-y" as possible

mind you, I'm pretty sure my baby was sweating today because I put leggings on her

because I just couldn't fathom her not wearing pants in November

oh well, she needed them to keep those little knees of hers baby soft

because this girl loves playing outside, like a lot

1. should probably water these plants sometime 2. love early morning light in the nursery  3. someone hasn't learned not to leave baby face down in the hallway quite yet  4. pyrex got a fresh wash today  5. had to take a quick step outside during nap time, the view from my kitchen window was calling my name  6. clean pyrex and an extra long nap equaled some of the first baking I've done since Everly was born [minus her party cakes of course]  7. time to get squeaky clean  8. had her first pumpkin muffin today at great-grandma's house, a hit by Everly's standards  9 & 10.  same hour, but come on, couldn't leave out that little scrunchy face, or those shoes  11. seen this view a thousand times but it will never get old - the balcony my mom tossed her wedding bouquet from  12. still not used to this time change, heading home feeling like it is time for bed

settling in with the pyrex collection

packing up my insane pyrex collection caused me a great deal of anxiety

in fact, days on end were spent just packing pyrex

which is why when all was said and done

much of the house did not get properly packed

because we just ran out of time from all our breakable items

[sorry to everyone who helped us move!]

I'm still working on figuring out how exactly I want everything displayed

but this window is making me too happy right now

the window ledge in our 1950's kitchen was just the perfect size to fit

my favorite pieces of pyrex

and seeing as how stacked pyrex can sometimes rattle a bit

especially on hard wood floors

I am happy to have these beauties in a secure, rattle free location

so we have moved

we are officially in our new place

and it has been a whirlwind

I'm just thankful I realized it was the tenth this morning when I checked my phone

so here's my day

we are getting things settled

one room at a time

ocean filigree pyrex - a little gift to myself

today the mr. and I had some errands to run

and we figured we would swing by one of our local antique malls

we were looking for vintage christmas finds

but had no luck there

instead, I did have some pretty awesome pyrex luck

my collection is large and I am extremely picky these days

but when I spied this casserole I knew I had to look closer

so yes, I am now very excited to own this very rare piece

I have found very little information on it

but it seems to go by the name Ocean Filigree

and yes, even though it may seem strange, it came with this awesome 

green plastic hugger cradle

so different than the typical pyrex cradle made of wood and metal

and green does happen to be my favorite color

so when I found it for a fraction of the online pricing

I knew it was time to get myself a little present

especially since it will most likely be the last piece of pyrex I buy for a while

because as many of you can probably tell by now

everly mae is going to be here oh so soon

so I'll be out of the thrifting scene for a bit

because I am going to be too busy snuggling with my little baby girl

if I had to stop collecting pyrex today, I officially could do it

because the ONE piece I've been desiring

needing

loving

drooling over

searching

hunting

and so on

is finally mine

thanks to the mr. who knows exactly what this birthday girl wanted

the green new dots bowl has found a home with me

 and yes, I could have taken a thousand photos of this set

sharing only three was challenging!

twenty-eight

today I turned twenty-eight

it has been a bit of a funky birthday

I think things have just been different this year

I'm still trying to get into my new school

get back into teaching more than one subject at a time with a group of kids

and due to some complicated circumstances

this will be the first year in my 28 that I do not get to have

the family birthday party that I have had every year leading up to this

and to be honest, it is bugging me a bit

maybe because this is my last birthday before E arrives

and I just wanted to do my "normal" party

but I'm not sure

with all that being said I enjoyed my birthday dinner

and my favorite type of presents

vintage & things for E, with a few goodies for me as well

now as many of you may know that pyrex is one of my favorite things

and the husband sure knew just the piece that I needed

in fact, I told him that having this piece by the time I was 30 was a goal

and he made sure that it happened a few years early!

can't wait to do some re-organizing tomorrow

because now, my new dots set is complete

and I think it needs to be featured front & center with the rest of the beauties

moon deco

oh my

today I added a piece to my collection I was pretty sure was never going to happen

I have always loved the striking pattern on the Moon Deco promotional piece

however, these rare pieces are always SO expensive

online they range from $70-135

and in person, I have only seen one, and they wanted just over $100

now, most of my collection is thrifted

and my biggest splurges have been $20

however, when the husband spotted this mint Moon Deco at our favorite 

neighborhood mid-century collective

for $40 I knew that it was going to be mine

well, I did think on it for the night

crazy, I know

but I knew that the store, Scout Living, 

was closing in ten minutes from when we spotted it

and after "thinking on it" for the night, you better believe we were there 

as soon as the store opened

I mean, seriously, I can't handle my excitement right now

lately my collecting has really slowed down

and there are only a few pieces I'm really on the hunt for

now that I have my very own Moon Deco

I'm feeling overly satisfied

so, once again, thank you to the mr. for spotting this piece for me

I'm not sure what I would do without him

this baby bump seems to have me a tad off my Pyrex hunting game!
