the tooth fairy has made a visit

everly had her first dentist x-rays this summer, and we got some exciting news, an adult tooth was about to arrive, kicking the baby tooth out of place.  yep, ev has had a wiggly tooth since june.  we were sure it was going to be gone by our vacation in july, but nope.  there were a few times we asked ev not to pull it out while in a line at disneyland, because misplacing her first baby tooth probably wouldn't get us any parenting awards [which clearly we are always trying to receive - the sarcasm is clear in brackets, right!?!].

I was starting to think this tooth was going to hold on until we started school, and for a moment I was afraid I might miss this little milestone while at work.  and even though teeth falling out of children's mouths is terrifying to me, I really didn't want to miss this first big girl moment with my lil' one.
and as luck would have it, or as I like to refer to it, the working mom gods were on my side.  everly and I were eating lunch on friday afternoon when all of a sudden she exclaimed that there was a tooth in her mouth, and it was hers!  pheeew, I'm pretty glad the tooth that she realized was mixed in with her butter pasta was her own.  after a few rinses with water, the little tiny baby tooth was put safely in a ziplock baggie, and tucked inside her tooth pillow.

that night we decided the tooth fairy might find the tooth easier if we wrapped it in foil, then placed it in the pocket of the tooth pillow.  ev woke up to find a nice little $10 bill in her pillow pocket.  a new stuffed animal has already been purchased.

that little baby tooth popped in at just four months old, and was gone at five.  off to kindergarten with a gap - dreams do come true!

on the first day of pre-school...

yesterday was the first day of pre-school!  everly is attending the same little school I attended back in the 80's, and there is something strangely comforting about sending her there.  oh, and the fact that she's the polar opposite of me when it comes to being left at school is also a big bonus.  she couldn't have been more excited for school.  it probably also helps that she's very familiar with the concept of school since she's been coming to a middle school since she was four months old.  so, what I'm saying is, pre-school is rockin' it on all levels.
today she was so confused as to why I was coming with her again to pre-school since I already attended orientation with her last week, and she knows that daddy is the one who is taking her to pre-school.  she also wasn't sure why we stuck around for so long, apparently she didn't need us there the extra thirty minutes.  and apparently, the first day of school isn't really a big thing.
thankfully, we didn't have a single clothing meltdown.  she appeased me by taking oh so many photos.  and man, did she sure melt my heart by remembering her first teacher's name with such ease, her little, "miss jefferson" is just about the cutest thing I've ever heard.
and yes, they've done these buckets since I was there.  we had a blast decorating her bucket last week!

all in a week.

all in a week, so many things have changed.
you decided to call the cat by her name, Sadie, not Sweetie anymore.
so I guess only daddy and I are calling her by her nickname you coined
you ate your first chicken, that wasn't in chicken apple sausage form
and besides needed to be bribed with bites of cherry
you ate it, and maybe enjoyed it?!?
you became potty trained, for reals.
people should really warn you that potty training is more like a 12-step program
sure, she's been potty trained since november, but people, we are really potty trained now
all steps and parts and ways and times
hallelujah
thank god she's an only, because I did not like particularly care for
that season of life
frankly, it sucked
I way too type A to walk around 'wet' and with baggies
of everything in my diaper bag
it just wasn't working
you also decided that you can use your cuteness to persuade
like big time
I've joked several times that you are going to be the token white kid
on our speech and debate team at school, because man, persuasion is real
you're newest phrase is, "well, aren't you just an adorable little mommy, or daddy, or nona"
whoever you are trying to win over
and seriously, it's the cutest, but many times it comes with some real
ulterior motives
and finally, you are on board with taking showers
which really makes you feel all too old for my liking
but man, is it convenient when we are constantly swimming in lakes and rivers and pools
one minute every evening and we are good, so I guess I'm ok with this big girl step

but man, all in a week.
